Talk, Talk Talk

I'm feeling slightly better about the short hair. I know he looks terribly cute and grown up, but I felt that his long hair was part of his personality. I miss it!

This week, I've had to work at my co-worker's house since my hard drive crashed and I'm waiting for it to be rebuilt. CS sent me a text today and told me that Jacob was sitting on his lap, asking for me. When CS told him where I was, he'd say "mama, wuv you."

He's quite the chatty boy these days. Everything he says to me is followed up with "mama."

"Here, mama." "Bye Mama." Juice, mama?"

I know it's just the beginning. Soon he's not going to stop talking, just needs to figure out how to say a complete sentence without mumbling through two of the three words.

We Did It And Now I'm Sad

I decided that we should cut Jacob's hair this weekend. He cries every time I have to comb it so often I don't comb it to avoid the cry fest. And thus, he looks like an orphan boy.

CS spent a lot of time with the comb and scissors to make it even and a less dramatic change in his hair. But after almost an hour, Jacob didn't want to be touched anymore and CS needed to finish up or let him walk around with uneven hair for a while. Possibly days or weeks, knowing Jacob and CS.

So we resorted to the clippers and while I am the one who suggested it, I had no idea how short it would be.

He looks so different and grown up. I already miss his blonde curls and sweet little eyes peeking through his hair. He had crazy hair and it was part of his personality. I didn't mean to cut it so short! But at least it grows back, right?

And The Winner...

Erin S!

I assume it is the ONLY Erin S. I know but I just want to be sure so I need you to email me and give me your address. Cheers!

Thanks friends! I'm going to do another giveaway in a few weeks when I figure out how to make a cute circle scarf out of some jersey I found at the thrift store. It's cute, I promise!

These Photos Are Staged

I asked him to sit down so I could take his picture. He willingly agreed.
Actually, he wanted to hold my hand. He's never done that before. Yes, I know. He's very sweet.
I am a mean mom because I told him that I would not pull the wagon around because there is a tractor and I am lazy.

He got to ride on the hay bales in the wagon, and we wandered around the empty apple farm. There were no apples left, but Jacob found one perfect pear on the ground.

It was a good morning.

I'll draw a winner for the giveaway tomorrow morning. I hope you win!

I Think I Overdid It

Remember this?

It is now this:

I've been working on my Tuffed Tweets quilt whenever I have the chance. I don't have much time but I've saved myself a ton of work by using the chain piecing method. I hate clipping strings so it's perfect!
I have a huge stack of strips to piece together. I laid about half of them out on the floor the other day and realized that it was going to be large enough to use as a bed quilt. I can't say I'm disappointed! Although I think CS is. But he never sleeps in the bed so bed quilt it is!

Giveaway Time!

Ok, MOM. I know I said I would do a giveaway on Friday but then life got in the way! I had a jewelry party on Saturday and Sunday flew by. We spent over an hour in Joann Fabrics, desperately hoping that I would be able to get my fabric cut before they closed. Let this be a lesson to you: Always, always take a number for the cutting table as soon as you walk in on a weekend. I should know this, and yet, we meandered around before picking out a number. So we had to wait for almost an hour. Lesson learned.

So giveaway: Remember when I made a million market bags to try and sell at the local U-Pick Apple Farm? I still have a lot (all) of them and I would like to give one away.

If you want to humor me, just leave me a comment and let me know something you are looking forward to this week.

This week, I'm looking forward to a playdate on Wednesday, sewing up my quilt top, and working on a design for a Mei Tai baby carrier.

Your turn!

*Also, I'm pretty sure my mom is disqualified from the giveaway because she actually paid for all of the market bags but don't tell her that! The winner will get to pick a bag, either from the three above or another from the stash. You can see them all on my Etsy shop. www.etsy.com/huntersprize Winner will be chosen randomly, in a process that has yet to be decided but I think Jacob will be involved.

Busy Week

This week, I had to work all day on Tuesday and Wednesday. The bosses went to Las Vegas for the ABC Kids Expo and I got to stay behind and make more money than usual. I can't say it's a fair trade but next year the Expo is in Kentucky and I am ALL OVER THAT. Hopefully, I mean.

So I've been chained to my desk for the past two days and this morning felt like a vacation until Jacob woke up at 4 AM calling for me. He woke up for good at 7 because there were covers on his feet (I know). So instead of sleeping in, we got up and laid around before going for a walk. The iPod was dead though, so I really couldn't catch a break! Oh, first world problems...

Working from home for a full day really isn't bad, but it kind of wears you out when you sit at a desk for 9 hours. I'm not really a sedentary person. Jacob and I spend the majority of the morning doing things so that I don't feel like a total slob when I sit down at 12 or 1 PM for work. I know I am so blessed that I get to work from home and I make enough to pay my bills on my part time salary. But I still miss the freedom of not working. Weekends go by so fast, I don't get nearly as much sewing time as I would like!

My Etsy shop isn't getting very much business but I have been getting a lot of attention from my Facebook friends. Last month, I made a make-up roll, a diaper bag, a purse/diaper bag for people I know. This month I have already made an apron and I have one knitting needle case, two baby carriers, and an apron to whip up as soon as I can. I love that people are willing to let me make things for them, I only hope that they enjoy them and that the quality it good. I think a crafter will always be the best critic. But I certainly hope that I'm becoming a good crafter. I'm trying not to focus on how long I've worked on something, but that it looks good.

So speaking of crafting, I am going to have a giveaway. Just need to take a picture tonight! Fun, yes?

Flashback

I'm at my mom's to help make peach jam today so I thought I'd share a few pictures from her camera. I hardly ever get to see pictures of me and Jacob together as I usually take them!

I love how hard he's squeezing my face up to his. Makes for a lovely picture, don't you agree?

Me And My Boy

We went to the Apple Day Parade last weekend. Maybe it's just in our small town but it seems that parades are no longer full of floats and instead are full of political slogans and random cars with a magnetic poster slapped on the side.
We had fun, of course, especially when people start handing out candycandy and stickies. Jacob seems to think that all stickers go directly onto his stomach. I have no idea why.

Weekends seem to go by in a flash. I know I have mornings to play with the boy but there are only so many things you can do with a couple of hours. I'm grateful that I got so much time to be with him before I had to start working. Even more grateful that I get to work from home without having to ship him off too much. I'm working about 23 hours a week now, and I even got a raise this week. I love my job and I'm so happy to be able to have this opportunity. But I'm still a little sad when I think about just getting to stay home with him.

I'd like to take a little poll here. Jacob might be in need of a hair cut. His cute little curls are getting pretty long and sometimes his rat's nest of hair in the morning makes him look a lot like a homeless old man. What to do!

Shop Notes

I made this apron for a friend I went to college with. It took a lot of trial and error and many ripped seams to get the top part to look normal. It kept bunching on me and it looked horrible. I am happy with the final look, but I think I will stay away from two part bust panels.
I need a model so I can take pictures of the whole thing.
These pillow slips are made from fabric I found in the Goodwill bin. I like the old fashioned aspect they have.

I recently discovered how to make fabric baskets. I think this one is the perfect size to hold children's books.

Hello Fall

I'd say we've been busy, but I'm not sure that's technically true. We've been trying to be outside as much as possible. Mornings are a bit chilly now and I know it's going to be cold soon. Too cold to sit on the grass and watch Jacob ride his bike in the driveway and up the sidewalk. Soon we will be in jackets and warm boots instead of teeshirts and bare feet.
I really hate winter. If we could have an eternal fall, I'd be happy. Winter in this house is going to be cold. Even now, when it's 80 something degrees outside, my toes are already freezing in the afternoon when I sit at my desk. After work, I step outside into the full sun to warm my body. Winter means no more playing outside after work because it will be dark at 5.

But I do love a reason to wear these new argyle socks. Only $1 at Target. I got four pairs. Jacob seemed to think they belonged to him. His daddy did not agree. I have circle scarves in the making, as well as the desire to pull out my knitting. I have two pumpkins on my counter for pumpkin butter. Fall can be lovely.
